Marcel Granollers<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Horacio Zeballos<\/a>\u00a0make history in the Caja Magica.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard and Argentinian won their second\u00a0Mutua Madrid Open<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday, to return to the throne at one of the tour\u2019s most special tournaments. The fifth seeds won a stunning final in the Manolo Santana Stadium, beating top seeds Marcelo Ar\u00e9valo and\u00a0Mate Pavic<\/a>\u00a06-4, 6-4 to lift the trophy in the Spanish capital four years on from their maiden title there.<\/p>\n

In a topsy-turvy match between two of the strongest teams on the circuit, Granollers and Zeballos needed nerves of steel to claim victory. Set one was a classy exchange in which one break was enough for them to take their first step towards the cup. In the second they had to dig deep to recover from 0-3 to eventually win one of the pair\u2019s most exciting matches all year.<\/p>\n

Granollers and Zeballos have managed a return to their best after a slow start to the season. A chest injury picked up by the Spaniard prevented the duo from competing together until March, slowing the momentum of one of the most feared duos in the locker room. Despite arriving in Madrid with a 4-4 record in 2025, they managed to bring everything together and claim the title.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to thank Horacio\u201d, said Granollers, visibly thrilled to have made it across the line. \u201cWe\u2019ve been playing together since 2019 and I think we\u2019re still really enjoying it. This year we had a difficult start, but I\u2019ve felt his support from day one and that\u2019s also been very important\u201d.<\/p>\n

On a European clay swing that they started in force by winning the ATP 250 in Bucharest, the Spanish-Argentine pair have again demonstrated their prowess in the Caja Magica to earn themselves one of the most coveted trophies on the circuit. \u201cMadrid is a city where I have amazing memories. I celebrated my birthday here every year\u201d, said Zeballos. \u201cLast year we reached No. 1 in the world here. I think it\u2019s one of the most beautiful cities and the one from which I\u2019ll have the best memories for the rest of my life\u201d.<\/p>\n

Conquering the Caja Magica was the result of an impeccable campaign and one of the most clinical in recent memory in the Caja Magica. Granollers and Zeballos claimed the title without dropping a single set in a tournament replete with talent. The new kings took down the two biggest teams in the draw, beating two\u00a0French Open<\/a>\u00a0champions in their last two rounds.<\/p>\n

Granollers and Zeballos are one of the most experienced doubles partnerships in the men\u2019s game. Having competed alongside one another for over five years at almost all of the biggest events on the calendar, Marcel and Horacio have amassed a collection of 12 doubles crowns together, including eight ATP Masters 1000s. No other active pair can boast of having so many titles from the ATP Tour\u2019s top rung of events.<\/p>\n

In one of the most demanding tournaments on the calendar, Granollers and Zeballos are now the fourth duo with multiple titles in the history of the\u00a0Mutua Madrid Open<\/a>.
