The biggest names on the ATP Tour are preparing for one of the most prestigious events on the clay swing, as they bid to etch their names in gold in the Spanish capital. The 96 contenders for the title now know their route to conquering the Manolo Santana Stadium, and the fortnight ahead promises to be a\u00a0 spectacular one.<\/p>\n
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will be the dominant force at a tournament he is vying to win for the first time in his career, and to make history. The Italian, winner of the last four ATP Masters 1000 titles, will start his campaign in Madrid against a qualifier. He shares a section with former champion Andrey Rublev and fifth seed Alex de Minaur, who stand out as key names on the road to the last sixteen.<\/p>\n
In this first section of the draw, much attention will be on Spanish wildcard Rafael J\u00f3dar, who is making his tournament debut and will face Dutchman Jesper de Jong in his opening match. Roberto Bautista Agut is a local player of particular significance since he is making his last appearance at the event. He will meet Argentina\u2019s Thiago Agust\u00edn Tirante in the first round.<\/p>\n
In a strong top half of the draw, fourth seed Ben Shelton will be looking to make his mark at Madrid’s altitude. Fresh off a title at the ATP 500 in Munich, the American could face Italian Matteo Berrettini in his opening match. His potential route to the semi-finals may see him cross paths with fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti, and notable names such as last year’s finalist Jack Draper, Frenchman Arthur Fils, recent champion in Barcelona, and rising star Valentin Vacherot also promise some fierce competition.<\/p>\n
Two-time champion Alexander Zverev will be hoping to impose his experience on the lower half of the draw and continue a solid 2026 season. The German will open against either Portuguese Nuno Borges or Mariano Navone of Argentina, in a section where former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev appears as the biggest potential stumbling block en route to the quarter-finals. Madrid native Mart\u00edn Landaluce also graces a part of the draw that features ATP Masters 1000 champions such as Jakub Mensik, Grigor Dimitrov and Karen Khachanov.<\/p>\n
The lower half of the draw also includes third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, currently enjoying one of the best spells of his career. The Canadian will play his opener against Argentine Sebasti\u00e1n B\u00e1ez or a qualifier. On his hypothetical route to the quarter-finals, the world No. 5 could face resistance from Alexander Bublik, who is becoming increasingly comfortable on clay and poses a real threat at Madrid’s altitude. In this section, the home contingent is represented by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Pablo Carre\u00f1o Busta and Jaume Munar.<\/p>\n
