But overall I think when I talk with my team, I think we can take a lot of positives from this week. It’s been tough, but overall I think it was a pretty good two weeks for me”, said the WTA world No. eight. “Now it’s time to think about the doubles”, she added regarding the final she will play alongside Diana Shnaider on Sunday. She will have a chance for redemption in less than 24 hours.

Andreeva, who was seeking her third WTA 1000 title in Madrid, earned herself two set points on the return in the second set against Kostyuk, but she was unable to convert them. Despite that, the player admitted her opponent was better throughout the match.

“I was happy about how I played at certain moments. When you lose, for me personally, I cannot be happy. To win you have to play like this the whole match and be consistent. She played very well, she was aggressive, she hit a lot of winners and went for the match. For my part, nothing worked particularly well”, continued Andreeva’s analysis of the match.

The runner-up also wanted to thank her team, which is led by Conchita Martínez. “I know that they always give 200% every day for me. It also gives me a lot of motivation to try and give that back. I would say that every single one of them is very, very important for me. I know sometimes it’s not easy working with me, I really appreciate all their support and what they do for me. They help me stay motivated to keep looking forward”, said Andreeva.

The 19-year-old player has matured greatly over recent seasons and Madrid is lucky to have had a front-row seat for her progress. It was in the Caja Magica where Andreeva introduced herself to the world in 2023, surprising everyone by reaching the round of sixteen at 15 years of age.

“I’ve changed a lot in the way I approach matches. That year, when I lost to Sabalenka, I didn’t expect much of myself. I simply wanted to give my all and enjoy the moment, but I knew that I would have no regrets if I lost. Now it’s different.
