The moment of truth

After a thrilling Thursday on which the main favourites all won their matches, Friday in the Caja Mágica will see the quarter-finals in the men’s competition and the semi-finals in the women’s; another day guaranteed to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.

First, the Manolo Santana Centre Court will witness a passionate clash between the current holder of the Ion Tiriac Trophy, Andy Murray, and world number 8 Tomas Berdych, who will be bidding for a place in the semis after seeing off David Ferrer.

The other big tie in the morning session will be between Spaniard Rafael Nadal and the Portuguese Joao Sousa. Nadal, one of the favourites to win the tournament, will be bidding to continue his streak of 12 victories on the trot to book his place in the semi-finals in Madrid.

In the women’s competition, tomorrow will see the semi-finals, where Slovak player Dominika Cibulkova and the American Louisa Chirico will be fighting for a golden ticket to the final. The winner of that clash will await the only seed left in the WTA tournament, Simona Halep, or the Australian Samantha Stosur, who meet at 20:00, also on Centre Court.

The show will continue with the second batch of quarters, where world number one Novak Djokovic, takes on Milos Raonic in the night session for a place in the semi-finals. The Australian Nick Kyrgios and world number six Kei Nishikori will be the other two players battling it out for a semi-final spot in the Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario Stadium in the morning session.

It promises to be quite a day, don’t wait to hear about it from someone else, come and see the best tennis in the world for yourself at the Caja Mágica. The ticket offices will be open first thing in the morning and the online sales system in operation.
