The Netflix series on Carlos Alcaraz, ‘My Way’ drops on Wednesday after over a year’s work. The player from Murcia presented the series on Tuesday at a dedicated event in the centre of Madrid, where he dropped a few hints on the three episodes that millions of viewers around the world will see.
“You won’t get bored with this series. So much happens. There are happy moments, bad moments, exciting, personal, professional moments… I’m really happy with it all and I think people are gonna like it”, said the world No. 3. “I haven’t touched a thing, I didn’t ask them to cut anything out. It happened just as you see it. You’ll see the real me”.
“It’s difficult to choose a favourite moment. Maybe when I win Roland Garros. Because of how it affects me when I watch it, it’s very emotional because of my build-up [he picked up a forearm injury in the weeks leading up to the French Grand Slam] and because of how I enjoy it with the people I love and the people that love me”, added Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil.
The Netflix team, with the support of Morena Films production, followed Alcaraz around the world during the 2024 season. Under the direction of Jorge Laplace, the team accompanied the tennis player to tournaments like the Mutua Madrid Open, Indian Wells, Roland Garros and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The result of thousands of hours of recording is three episodes in which Carlitos shows a more personal side, as well as demonstrating that it is possible to reach the pinnacle of world sport without completely foregoing family and leisure time.
The Netflix cameras had full access to Alcaraz’s daily life: they recorded family gatherings, title celebrations, and also tough moments, such as when he had to withdraw from the Monte Carlo and Barcelona tournaments because of an arm injury. They also witnessed incredible success stories such as his French Open, Wimbledon and Indian Wells titles and the Olympic silver he won on the Paris clay.
As well as the first-hand dialogue from Alcaraz, all the members of his team provided personal interviews: Albert Molina, his agent; Juan Carlos Ferrero, his coach; Juanjo Moreno, his physio; Alberto Lledó, his fitness coach; and Juanjo López, his doctor. His brother Alvaro and his parents, Carlos and Virginia, also have their say. “Without them I wouldn’t be who I am. I have to thank them. I always say that I’m very lucky and you will see that in the documentary”, Alcaraz said to conclude the presentation event in Madrid.
