In an unprecedented and spectacular initiative, the Mutua Madrid Open will be bringing tennis to the centre of Madrid as never seen before by installing a court on Plaza de Colón that will be an exact replica of those on which the professionals play in the Caja Mágica during the tournament, and it will be available for fans to hire and play on in an unforgettable location.
Built to the standards of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the court will be available from the 11th of April to the 5th of May from 10:00 to 20:00. Bookings (for one-hour slots) can be made now on Playtomic (http://bit.ly/PlaytomicMutuaOpen) at the price of one euro, opening the doors to absolutely anybody who would like to enjoy this unique experience.
Gerard Tsobanian, CEO of the Mutua Madrid Open, spoke of his excitement about the installation of the court: “We always say that we want to bring tennis to all citizens of Madrid, and this time we will be doing that in the literal sense of the expression. The clay court the Mutua Madrid Open is building on Plaza de Colón will promote sport by allowing fans to play tennis with a spectacular backdrop, and it is another way in which the name of Madrid will be seen around the world with this incredible initiative”.
Feliciano López, director of the Mutua Madrid Open, was in agreement with Tsobanian: “We love doing things that seem impossible, but this time we have gone a step further. Replicating the courts of the Caja Mágica in the centre of Madrid and making it available to fans is a unique gift. I’m hoping to go there and practise one day”.
The Mutua Madrid Open’s Plaza de Colón court will form part of the promotional campaign for the 2023 tournament, which takes place in the Caja Mágica from the 24th of April to 7th of May.
