A week before the Mutua Madrid Open kicks off, the organizers have announced two new invitees for the women’s qualifiers and two more in the doubles. Silvia Soler and Paula Badosa will now have a chance to fight for their place in the main draw and the pairs formed by Lara Arruabarrena and Sara Sorribes and Arantxa Parra and Silvia Soler will play in the doubles competition.
Silvia Soler, the fifth best Spanish player in the rankings, will be back in the Caja Mágica again this season bidding for a place in the main draw. The world number 156 comes into the tournament after playing for Spain in the recent Fed Cup tie against France and she will be as gritty as ever as she fights for qualification.
In addition, Paula Badosa, one of Spain’s most promising upcoming players, will be returning to Madrid. The 19 year old, who has played in two previous Mutua Madrid Opens, made it through the qualifiers in 2015, delighting the fans with her spectacular tennis. This time, after playing a few weeks ago in Miami, Badosa will be looking for another spot in the main draw of the year’s third Premier Mandatory.
Also, Arantxa Parra’s return to the courts is big news this year. After winning three titles early in 2016 with Anabel Medina and playing in the WTA Elite Trophy at the end of the year, Arantxa will play in the doubles in the Caja Mágica alongside Silvia Soler upon her return. Lara Arruabarrena and Sara Sorribes will also team up in the doubles after playing several tournaments together.
