Super-Saturday at the Caja Mágica

The second weekend of the 15th Mutua Madrid Open has arrived and with it the first silverware to be handed out at the Caja Mágica. In the women’s draw the singles and doubles finals will be contested on Saturday and in the men’s competition, Sunday’s finalists will be decided.

After an enthralling day’s play on Friday headlined by the WTA semi-finals, the Ion Tiriac trophy awaits either Dominika Cibulkova or the final remaining seed in the draw, Simona Halep. The world number six, who beat Samantha Stosur 6-2, 6-0 on Friday night, will face the 38-ranked Slovakian at 6pm on the Manolo Santana Stadium in a match where anything could happen after the sensational tennis both players have produced throughout the tournament.

The women’s doubles will also reach its denouement on Saturday when top seeds and world number one pairing Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza take on French duo Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic.

In the men’s draw spectators will have the chance to see a repeat of last year’s final between Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray. The Spanish fifth seed will attempt to avenge his loss in the 2015 final against the world number two, who will not give anything away easily on the Madrid clay in a match starting at 1pm.

The second semi-final will provide the icing on the cake of Saturday’s schedule, when world number one Novak Djokovic faces sixth seed Kei Nishikori. That match, at 8pm on Manolo Santana, will bring the curtain down on a spectacular day’s action at the Caja Mágica.

It couldn’t be a more enticing day of tennis at the Mutua Madrid Open, and one not to be missed. If you would like to be there, the ticket offices open first thing in the morning and the online sales system will be operational as always.
