The history of this great event is written thanks to the work of the people who push for constant improvement, trying to maintain the Mutua Madrid Open’s status as one of the biggest tournaments in the world. It is a unique tournament with fine details that set it apart, and it is always leading the way for change.
It’s through this process, three years ago, that the Twitch channel was born. It was a pioneering idea in the tennis world and a first on the ATP and WTA Tours. Tennis is growing every day and constantly exploring ways of reaching its youngest audience. Thus, a channel was born that will be celebrating its fourth year at this Mutua Madrid Open, having taken over from the radio station that was created at the event in 2013.
Ever since its inception, it has been a resounding success. During its hundreds of hours of live streaming, legends such as Rafa Nadal himself and big names in the streaming world like DJMario have visited the set. The sky was the limit, that was the attitude of the team who were pushing themselves to bring tennis to the masses in a new and relaxed style, while maintaining the professionalism required by an event like the ‘Mutua’. It was a perfect opportunity to narrate the competition in a way that would attract the gaze of the younger generations.
In the last three years, stars like Rafa Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have all visited the spectacular set on Level 0 of the Caja Magica, as well as big names such as gamer TheGrefg, TV presenter David Broncano, and footballers Thibaut Courtois and Paulo Dybala.
2025 will be no different. The team is raring to go. Antonio Arenas will be at the helm for the fourth consecutive year. Anabel Medina Garrigues, Olympic medallist and ex-captain of the Spanish Billie Jean King Cup side, will be the teams’ tennis expert, and Agos Larocca will be spreading the fun around the Caja Magica with her microphone while Iñaki Cano will be putting his unique twist on proceedings. Of course, there will also be live commentary from the Manolo Santana centre court. The special guests will be behind the microphones once again and plenty of players will visit the stunning set which, as always, has plenty of surprises in store.
The channel will also be welcoming two new faces. On the commentary team, alongside Edu Salán, Fran Guillén will be making his debut on the Twitch channel. The regular La Liga and Premier League commentator will be joining the Mutua Madrid Open crew in 2025. Journalist Germán Abril will also be alongside the panel of experts, providing us with some insight into the goings on behind the scenes.
“I think when we started in 2022, we didn’t realise the project would be such a success, both in the tennis world and elsewhere. It’s a great joy to see the channel grow each year. In 2025 we have some new ideas up our sleeves that are sure to keep the viewers engaged. It’s a challenge and a responsibility to do it for the fourth year, but we’re also really excited to see how the fans at home and at the venue respond. The addition of Fran Guillén and Germán Abril will bring the added quality we look for every season. We hope you’ll all be hooked on the Twitch channel”, said Antonio Arenas, the programme’s presenter.
The stream can be followed on the Mutua Madrid Open channel on the official Twitch app, or on the website: twitch.tv/mutuamadridopen.
