The Mutua Madrid Open returns to La 1 and Teledeporte

As a result of the agreement reached after the 2015 Mutua Madrid Open, Teledeporte and La 1 will broadcast the ATP and WTA tournaments in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

  • The Mutua Madrid Open will be the only Masters 1000 ATP tournament broadcast free to air in Spain
  • The agreement, which makes La 1 and Teledeporte the official channels of the Mutua Madrid Open, will remain in force until 2019
  • Teledeporte will broadcast seven matches per day
  • La 1 will show a half-hour highlights show every day at 00:30

Thanks to this productive agreement, Teledeporte will be showing as many as seven matches per day on the fifteenth anniversary of the Mutua Madrid Open, which takes place from 29 April to 8 May in the Caja Mágica. To cap off each day, La 1 will show the day’s highlights in a half-hour programme. La 1 will show the men’s final. There will also be matches on La 1 if a Spanish player reaches the semi-finals or the women’s final.

Mutua Madrid Open Director Manolo Santana could not hide his huge satisfaction at the news: “We are very happy that our tournament will be shown on Teledeporte again. It is great news on our 15th Anniversary that television viewers will be able to enjoy 7 matches a day on Teledeporte and a daily highlights show on TVE. I think the tournament deserves it and it will help to continue promoting tennis in Spain”.

For his part, Gerard Tsobanian, President and CEO of the Mutua Madrid Open, was very positive about the impact that this change will have on the tournament: “That they will be showing as many as 7 matches a day is fabulous. This will help the Mutua Madrid Open reach a wider audience of tennis fans in Spain and also give our sponsors have more visibility during the ten days of the tournament. It is vital that we value the importance of having a combined Masters 1000 tournament in Spain and that is why we are glad that it can be broadcast free to air across the whole of Spain on La 1 and Teledeporte”.

According to the corporation, the RTVE website will also build a micro-site for the tournament, where matches can be followed live and the most complete coverage of the tournament can be found. In order to improve the Mutua Madrid Open’s following it will double the television coverage and matches will be available from as many as six courts.

Teledeporte and La 1 will also cover the celebrations for the fifteenth anniversary of the Mutua Madrid Open, which has once again decided to donate the proceeds from the first day of competition to the foundations that participate in the charity event on 29 April.
