Mutua Madrid Open to install a tennis court on plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso

For the third consecutive year, Mutua Madrid Open is taking tennis to the centre of Madrid. To mark the staging of this year’s tournament, which takes place in the Caja Magica from 21 April to 4 May, the Mutua Madrid Open will be installing a clay court on Plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso which will be an exact replica of those used by the professionals during the event, and which fans will be able to book so that they can play tennis in an iconic setting.

Built to International Tennis Federation (ITF) standards, the court will be available from 7 April to 4 May between 10:00 and 20:00. Reservations (for one hour) are now available on Playtomic (https://goo.su/rBGv) at the symbolic price of one euro.

Gerard Tsobanian, CEO of the Mutua Madrid Open, said of the initiative: “We’re again going to achieve the goal of taking tennis to the centre of Madrid. After installing our court for the first time in Colon in 2023, and on Plaza Mayor in 2024, now we’re taking it to Plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso, next to Picasso Tower. It’s a place I love and I’m sure all the fans will too. I’d like to thank, as always, the Madrid City Council for all their help making this project possible, as well as Pontegadea, the owner of Picasso Tower, for the help and collaboration”.

Feliciano López, director of the Mutua Madrid Open, is excited to try out the new court: “It was a dream come true to be able to play tennis in places like Colon and Plaza Mayor. The tennis courts we installed there were a success, and I’m convinced that it will be again in 2025 with the new court on Plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso. I can’t wait to play there, just like all tennis fans”.

The court on Plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso is part of the promotion campaign for the Mutua Madrid Open, which in 2024 attracted 380,073 spectators over the fortnight of competition.
