The WTA confirms all of its stars for the fifteenth anniversary of the Mutua Madrid Open

  • Serena Williams heads the list of the planet’s best players who will compete in Madrid
  • Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez will represent the Spanish Armada
  • The fifteenth anniversary tournament takes place in the Caja Mágica from 29 April to 8 May

With just over a month until the start of the fifteenth Mutua Madrid Open, the WTA has published the list of players with direct access to the tournament’s main draw, who are guaranteed to be at the Caja Mágica. Without exception, all the biggest stars on the women’s tour will be back to compete on the Madrid clay for the season’s third Premier Mandatory, one of the most important events on the calendar.

Also, to complete the 64-player draw, the tournament organisers will grant 5 invitations, which will be announced in the coming weeks, and 8 other players will come through the qualifying rounds, which start on 29 April.

Dinara Safina, the Mutua Madrid Open women players’ intermediary, made the following statement after seeing the list: “Once again this year we are going to be able to enjoy the best female players in the world in Madrid. This year’s tournament is even more special as it is the fifteenth anniversary, so we are excited to have such a spectacular line-up. We are going to give our all to make it an unforgettable few days”.
